Sisters in Crime Australia was launched at the Feminist Book Festival in Melbourne, Australia, in September 1991. It grew out of a shared interest in women's crime and mystery fiction. Sisters in Crime took inspiration from the American organisation of the same name which was initiated by Sara Paretsky and others in 1986.
